Personal
conflicts are inevitable; it’s part of the reality so no one would believe if
someone says he/she didn’t experience having those, that someone isn’t human
anymore, right? Now, some people know how to handle their own personal
conflicts but, some of the people experiencing it don’t have any idea on how to
resolve it. Why? Simply because they just don’t know what to do. It’s either
they are hesitating whether to follow this one or that one, it’s hard to
choose, just like how we let someone choose between the two of his/her most
favorite food, games, movies and novels. Some chose to solve their
intrapersonal conflicts by doing the things which could only worsen their
situation. Some intrapersonal conflicts are minor, easy to handle or can be
overlooked. But some require a carefully thought out strategy for successful
resolution. So, the question is how to handle situations when there is a battle
within you? Well, below are some of the effective strategies on resolving
personal conflicts.
Deal
with it. Accepting the truth that sometimes going
through with personal conflicts are unavoidable. Deciding not to mind them even
when you’re hesitant could create or result to another conflict, and could
affect the people which are involved and the reason why you’re having battles
with your conscience. You have to deal with it in order for you not to be stuck
with your conflict. Example is, when you needed to choose between this side or
that side, but you chose not to mind it and think that it’s not that important
and because of that, you would only be in a situation which is worse than you
thought it would be.
Think
it through. Deciding and choosing without thinking what
might happen could affect you and the people that surrounds you. Having a
moment to think about the action or decision that you need to make. You need to
foresee things and analyze if what would happen if you go with this decision or
the other one. You had to think of a way on what you should do in order for
your personal conflict to be resolved. For example is thinking and reading
books which are related to dealing with and facing your personal conflicts.
Seek
advice. Well yes, it’s true that you’re the only one who could
best solve your personal conflict, but asking someone to help you isn’t bad
right? Sharing it to someone whom you’re comfortable with is best, especially
when that someone knows you too well. They could give you some advice which
could be the best thing that you should do or decide, base on how they know and
think of you. Example of this strategy is when you don’t have any idea on what
to do, and your personal conflict keeps on getting on your way and seems to
bother you a lot, ask your best friend, parents or your siblings to help you
out, and maybe they can give you some advice which you can use and you can get
some idea with.
Know
your priorities. It’s one of those days when you’re having
an argument with yourself because your friends invited you to hangout with
them, but because you’re not lucky enough and fate isn’t that good to you, it
happened while you needed to study for your quarter exam. Now, I must admit it
and every teenager must admit it, if we’re in that position, we prefer to be
with our friends rather than studying right? But well, nobody would want to
repeat school. Your body wants to go, but your mind doesn’t want you to. Among
your friends and your studies, isn’t it too obvious which one should be
prioritized? Priorities are important in order for you not to regret it at the
end. Set aside the things which are less important, and go with the ones who
could lead you to be a better one.
Personal conflicts can’t
be avoided, but it can be resolved. Although avoidance seems like the easy way
out. Facing your conscience and thinking about what you should do and what
should you choose whenever you’re in such situation.
